LAID-BACK LUXURY: LIFE ALONG SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S COASTLINE
Nestled just beyond the bustle of Los Angeles, the South Bay is a hidden gem where coastal
charm meets luxury living. Spanning the iconic beach communities of Manhattan Beach,
Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, and the hills of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, this
stretch of shoreline offers an unparalleled lifestyle rooted in connection, wellness, and timeless
California ease.
As a longtime resident and real estate professional in the South Bay, I’ve had the privilege of
watching this community evolve while preserving the very elements that make it so special.
Whether it’s a morning surf session, a sunset stroll along The Strand, or coffee at a favorite local
spot where everyone knows your name, life here feels both grounded and elevated.
One of the most exciting features of life in the South Bay is the proximity to world-class sporting
events and the arts — from professional games to plays, concerts, and musicals. As a result,
our communities are home to more than their fair share of professional athletes and
entertainment industry professionals. Local sports teams with training facilities and stadiums
within easy commuting distance include the Clippers, Lakers, Rams, Chargers, Kings, Dodgers,
Angels, Ducks, LAFC, LA Galaxy, Angel City FC, and the Sparks. A quick drive up the freeway
puts you at iconic venues like SoFi Stadium, the Coliseum, Pantages Theatre, The Forum,
Geffen Playhouse, Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Ahmanson Theatre,
Hollywood Bowl, the Greek Theatre, and many more. We truly have it all — you can even reach
Mammoth Mountain in about five hours by car (traffic permitting!) for a weekend ski escape.
LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD GUIDE
The prominent cities of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, and
Palos Verdes each complement one another while offering distinct experiences to meet the
needs of a wide range of buyers in the South Bay.
Manhattan Beach has become synonymous with prestige and architectural excellence. With its
walkable downtown, award-winning schools, and stunning ocean-view properties, it draws those
seeking both beauty and long-term investment. The Sand Section, in particular—closest to the
water—continues to see strong demand from local buyers and those relocating from major
metros. The city’s median SFR sale price remains the highest in the region, at $5.4M as of Q1
2025. Located just minutes from LAX and Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach remains a haven for
discerning clientele who desire effortless access to the finest in global travel and luxury.
Hermosa Beach, a city just over one square mile in size and located directly south of
Manhattan Beach, exudes a laid-back, bohemian energy. Its tight-knit community, buzzing Pier
Plaza, and active lifestyle attracts creatives, entrepreneurs, and families alike. It’s the kind of
place where beach volleyball games run year-round and neighbors quickly become lifelong
friends.
Redondo Beach, larger in size and broader in offerings, features a mix of charming
single-family homes, coastal condos, and quiet streets with peek-a-boo ocean views — as well
as estates perched just above the sand along the Esplanade. It’s an ideal choice for those
seeking a coastal lifestyle with a bit more space, both indoors and out. Redondo Beach
continues to offer a diverse range of inventory, with homes ranging from $1.5M to $4M+,
depending on proximity to the coast.
El Segundo blends small-town charm with big-league energy. Known for its top-tier athletic
facilities and sports programs, the close-knit community is also home to the headquarters and
training facilities of multiple professional sports teams. From NHL to NFL training centers, El
Segundo has become a hub for professional athletes and their families across many high-profile
and notable teams, including the Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and LA Chargers.
This unique dynamic contributes to consistent demand in the local housing market, with median
sold prices hovering around $2.1M, as players, coaches, and executives often seek residences
nearby in the South Bay.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula offers a more serene and scenic lifestyle, set atop coastal bluffs
with sweeping ocean, city, and canyon views. Known for its spacious lots, top-tier schools, and
abundant outdoor recreation — from hiking and horseback riding to golfing and coastal cycling
— it’s a natural fit for those seeking privacy and a strong connection with nature. Many homes
boast lot sizes over 15,000 sq ft, with prices ranging from $2M to over $10M for estate-style
properties with panoramic views.
SOUTH BAY LUXURY MARKET OVERVIEW
As we move into Q2 2025, the South Bay’s unique blend of laid-back luxury, proximity to Los
Angeles, and top-rated school systems continues to attract discerning buyers and fuel a
competitive real estate market. Inventory remains tight, which drives continued price stability
across these coveted neighborhoods as buyers seek their piece of paradise along the Southern
California coast. Demand has also been driven by an influx of individuals and families affected
by recent fires in nearby Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Altadena. As a result, Q1 saw
exceptionally high demand for leases (both furnished and unfurnished) as well as sales. Not
surprisingly, the welcoming community lovingly absorbed hundreds of families in search of
housing, schooling, and a strong sense of belonging. It has already been a busy and
prosperous year, and we’re looking ahead to a vibrant end-of-spring and summer market — a
season that traditionally brings an influx of second-home buyers to our beautiful beachside
communities. With strong demand, limited inventory, and unwavering lifestyle appeal, 2025 is
shaping up to be a dynamic and opportunity-filled year for South Bay real estate.
